Position Overview:

Augsburg Fairview Academy seeks a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support our student population. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers to provide individualized support to students with disabilities, helping them achieve academic, social, and behavioral success. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with disabilities, providing one-on-one or small-group support as needed.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support the special education teacher in delivering lessons and activities, adapting materials, and modifying instructional methods to meet students’ needs.
  • Behavioral Support: Monitor student behavior and assist with implementing positive behavior strategies, providing guidance and redirection as necessary.
  • Data Collection: Track student progress through observations and record data to support teachers in monitoring student growth and meeting IEP goals.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
  • Supervision: Assist with student supervision in various school settings, including the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, and during school activities.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, respectful, and professional communication with students, staff, and families to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information following school policies and state and federal laws.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in a school setting, is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and administrators.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.
  • Physical ability to assist with student mobility and participate in activities that require standing, walking, or lifting as needed.
