PhyEd/Health Teacher (0.5FTE)

Augsburg Fairview Academy seeks a 0.5FTE Physical Education and Health Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

Reports to: Executive Team
AFA seeks a hard-working, passionate, goal-oriented leader to join our team as the 0.5FTE High School Physical Education and Health Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Enthusiasm for and deep knowledge of the content area
  • Keen expertise in pedagogical best practices for physical education and health/wellness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and students
  • Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and extreme patience
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
  • Understanding and belief in Augsburg Fairview Academy’s unique mission and vision
  • Active community experts, Ojibwe or Dakota language speakers
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies that support student wellness and physical health
  • Understanding of educational programs and assistance within the school setting to support and sustain student progress and success
Desired Qualifications:
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Physical Education and Health (or ability to obtain such)
  • Experience teaching in an urban high school
  • Experience co-teaching with a special education teacher
  • Experience collaborating with students, families, and the intercultural communities our school serves
  • Track record of success serving youth with significant developmental risk factors
  • All qualities of a Star Teacher (Haberman)
  • Training and experience with Circle of Courage, including RAP or LSCI
  • Training and experience with restorative practices
  • Teaching experience in a charter school
Essential Job Functions:
  • Cultivating strong, positive relationships with students
  • Teaching in a classroom, gym, and other multifunctional settings
  • Incorporating active, experiential learning opportunities in daily lessons
  • Working with students, parents, teachers, and student support team to address challenges to students’ academic progress
  • Managing classroom and gym activities and behaviors effectively
  • Providing positive behavior interventions for students based on the Academy’s principles of authoritative instruction
  • Recording, reporting, and evaluating student academic and behavioral data
  • Attending monthly Family Night, Academic Conferences, Prom, Graduation, and all other required events
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Logistics:
  • Monday – Thursday from 7:45am-4:00pm
  • Compensation based on the Augsburg Fairview Academy FY25 salary schedule
