Job Summary:

Augsburg Fairview Academy seeks a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will strongly commit to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. This role requires understanding individualized education plans (IEPs), a commitment to restorative practices, and a passion for empowering students to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Design and deliver specially designed instruction to meet each student’s unique needs, adapting curriculum and teaching strategies as needed in both a co-teaching and resource setting.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and ensure students can access grade-level curriculum.
  • Provide direct instruction, interventions, and behavioral support to students with disabilities, including students with autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Conduct assessments and use data to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Schedule and conduct IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings, maintaining open communication with families and stakeholders.
  • Create a safe, positive, respectful classroom environment that aligns with the school’s commitment to equity, restorative practices, and cultural relevance.
  • Support students’ social-emotional development through positive behavior interventions and restorative approaches.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, and compliance paperwork.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Director, Coordinator, and other support staff to ensure best practices in service delivery.
  • Stay current with professional development opportunities related to special education, including new strategies and interventions for student success.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Minnesota Teaching License (EBD, SLD, or ABS preferred).
  • Preferred: Experience working with high school students in an urban setting.
  • Strong understanding of IEP processes, special education law, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain organized documentation.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating a culturally responsive learning environment.
